This is why I travel, to find these beautiful tranquil places where you are walking thru the forest, jumping over rocks and then you look up from the ground and think wow, holy fucking shit this place is great, I cannot believe I am here at this perfect moment in time, how does this place even exist, how is this world so beautiful. And its those moments why I travel. Why I live. (Swedish forest)

Looking at this photo, seeing the genuine happiness and joy in my face, shining through my eyes; I can remember the exact feeling I had at this moment. The feeling of satisfaction upon climbing up through the rocky valley below, arctic summer sun heating my back with its rays of life, at times hiking on all fours to scramble up. And then, finally reaching the ridge, the cool breeze, the smell of the sea, the mountains opened up to reveal the Norwegian Sea and the snow-capped mountain range across the water on the mainland, the most welcoming of sights.
This photo was taken 2 hours into an 8 hour technical hike which saw us returning to our tent at 1 am. The most rewarding day hike I have ever done. (Vågakallen, Lofoten)

Enter a Gliding through the water with ease, I have never felt more fluid in motion. The rhythmic timing of my strokes like a bird floating through the sky. The water so still, as if the ocean is on my side, whispering encouragement, just ten more metres, it suggests. Enough. Out of breathe, I am no fish. I lay on my back. It is autumn in Australia and the suns final rays are all that illuminate the horizon. The stars twinkle in the deep blue sky as the clouds appear to hover above, relaxing in the stillness of the evening, lit so delicately by the moon. So peaceful. The perfect way to end a day of work, the perfect way to begin a Saturday night.caption

the dreamer. A blanket of stars, the perfect setting to sit and wonder, to dream away to places far beyond, to look far inside and tune into that internal voice that guides you – always has and always will, the whispers of which are sadly so often drowned out by the stresses/ constraints/ expectations of daily life – once you open up and listen you can find a hint of what you truly desire, for at least the time being. Always searching. Never settling. (Camping in the Avon Valley Nt Park, an hours drive from my house in the city

Close to the happiest I have ever been – collecting muscles in the shallow water like the happy child I am. Short lived however when I was later told they were not edible due to some toxin they contained for reasons I do not remember. Taken in the small town of Bokenas, north of Gothenburg.

In this sleep state my senses are sensitised, music becomes more meaningful, movies more magical, walls weep, thumbs tingle, the world enhanced. I lie in a state of euphoria, ecstasy running throughout. In this room, this room is all I need, these headphones provide all the means I require to make my escape from reality, to live another life, ten other lives, each in succession, each entirely different. I day dream the impossible. I fly to impossible heights, I lay with the one I love in my arms. Anything is possible. Now I must go, leave this cave, this paradise, this paradox and face reality in all its beauty that is: the real world. #Kampala

The African Sunrise. Something special, an experience uniquely African. The sky on the horizon illuminated in a perfect blend of yellow, orange and red haze that is indistinguishably the definition of dawn. The sparse arid vegetation silhouetted by the gigantic red orange rising star which we so delicately orbit, known as, THE sun. One can't help but feel a sense of awe while an overriding calm takes over the and soothes the witnesses soul. The African sunrise is the definition of beauty. Africa is beauty. The people, the landscapes, the flora, the fauna.

One of my favourite photos from my cousins wedding in Zimbabwe. So much is happening in this picture, so many stories to be told, none that would be remembered after a wedding celebration such as this one.

HH with company. The first HH's I met in Norway, two very kind, great 20yo Belgium guys who plan on starting their own NGO having already spent past summers volunteering in West Africa. Truly inspiring to see this passion and purpose in life at such a young age. I doubt I would have been as dedicated to hitch hiking the entire trip if I had not met these two.

Perfect Persian Geomerty
Perfect Persian Geometry, Shiraz Iran. As intricate as their history, their religion, their people, their culture, their hospitality. A place, like most, unexplainable, a first hand experience immersed in the culture is the only way. Don’t believe what you hear, see for your self. Travel for life.
Hiking in Landmannalaugar Nt Park, Iceland. Its hard to believe such a place as Iceland exists, and dont let this photo or any other convince you, visit Iceland, hike over lava fields to snow capped volcanoes and convince yourself that you are still on this planet.

Perhaps my favourite photo I have ever taken, top 5 for sure. And yet the 270 degree panorama view of mountains rising out of the ocean that was in front of me is hardly captured in this single photo. Driving in Lofoten is a slow but joyous process when you cannot help but stop at every turn. I hesitate on playing favourites, but if I had to pick, the Lofoten Islands would come out on top. An inspirational old man young at heart, who continues to opt for holidays back backing around south east Asia, living in hostels and hitch hiking. I can only hope I have his sense of adventure at his age. He picked me up while I was hitch hiking and ended up opening his doors for me giving me a bed to sleep and food to eat at his 100yo farm house turned summer cottage in the west of Norway. Located on the banks of a fjord, it is a place of complete serenity.

Centre of the Universe
Centre of the Universe. Hiking in the Swedish forest nearby my house earlier this Spring ’15 to contemplate what was next for me. The outcome was the decision that volunteering in Africa was the next logical step for me to take. For a few hours I isolated myself from the confined of life and reality, of logic and reasoning, of constrains and expectations imposed by the modern world and consulted my guy instinct/internal spirit and it answered.
I went to Namibia with my brother and his family for 2 weeks and this was my favourite photo. Taken in town built in the desert, next to the ocean, this is outside the local seafood store. Where, we bought and braai'd the best calamari I have, and possibly ever will taste.

After Henties Bay we drove inland further into the desert and within 2 hours the temperature had increased by 20 degrees, quite a phenomenon.

  1. Love the photos. I remember how difficult it was loading photos travelling through Africa; looking forward to a few more of Central Africa
